The Next Industrial Revolution: Returning Manufacturing to Dense Urban Environments
Urban Made – reINDUSTRIALIZATION of the Modern Metropolis
Cities gave rise to industry, housed manufacturing in its prime, and watched as jobs left, first moving to rural areas and then out of the country entirely. In 2010, we believe that cities like Allentown will witness manufacturing and industry begin its return to the metropolis.
Join Urban Land Institute members and guests from throughout the region for a panel discussion of urban manufacturing, walking tour of the South Tenth Street Industrial Neighborhood and reception at Lehigh Valley Grand Prix, from 2-6pm on May 20, 2010. We will spotlight the many ways in which Allentown is working to enhance its manufacturing economy, including retrofitting industrial space for modern manufacturing, planning for new flex/industrial space, brownfield remediation, adaptive reuse of obsolete space, and incentives for returning manufacturing to the city.
